Mistaken Moments

She briefly walks by,
and with just barely a glance,
You’ve already set your conjecture,
Your judgments, your prejudice.
Always the critic, never the inquirer.
Never knowing what’s actually inside.
Not wanting to know, not caring.
Your bias opinions and bigotry are enough.
Though merely a distorted, one sided view.

And as she passes by…
She deems the same of you.

Author's Comments

'Never judge a book by its cover'. It's ironically funny that this phrase is so popular..yet so few live by these words.

This is really nothing more than a scribbling based on irritation and disgust at the time it was written.

It's hard to get past our prejudices. Even when we are aware of them. I really like the poem, it's a great snapshot of those first few seconds of passing by a stranger. Nice work.
